Think Sideways Movie #6: Revision

Today's movie, brought to you by the letter : "Revision: If the victory is long in coming."

Yes, the letter . That's right. I love editing, so you'll just have to deal :P

Today we hear about the horrors and wonders of editing, of why you should plan to do it only once and how you can do so - and why you should never try to write a book and edit it in two months. Male pregnancy, apparently, may ensure. Have fun!

And yes, I know we've hashed this out before, but there are New People reading this blog now! Huzzah! *waves to the swarms of newcomers* So tell me: Editing. Love it or hate it, and why?

I don't mind it so much, as long as I'm "feeling" the story. I don't like editing as much as writing, because when I'm writing I know it doesn't have to be perfect. When I'm editing, I wear a much more "perfectionist" hat. And that can be exhausting.

I'm not sure the whole Revise Once thing works for me since I revise in layers. However, I am only reWRITING my book once. Does that count? Also, with Breakaway, it's my first book. A trainer novel. I've revised it way too many times.

So if we revise only once does that mean we should send out our SECOND draft to agents? *Shudders At The Thought*

I can see revising once working once you have some pretty darned good experience under your belt.

Right after the first draft is completed I'll sweep through and fix some things. I don't mind that as I'm still in "writing" mode.

I really like editing other people's stuff. I don't like editing my own mostly because I am pretty bored with the story by then. :(
